The UKRA represents members' views and interests in an economic and operational trading framework both nationally and internationally, ensuring the sustainability of the industry and its long term viability. The UKRA exists to promote good practice and to raise the profile of the rendering industry and its efforts to produce products and renewable fuels in an environmentally friendly way.
Aims and objectives
- To promote the project the benefits and importance of the industry to other industry sectors in the feed and food chains
- To represent the views of members in consultation with DEFRA/EA/EFPRA/WRO and other bodies about legislative and other issues
- To listen to the views of members, offering information and guidance
- To inform, educate and guide ministers, civil servants, NGOs and legislators
- To update and adopt the code of practice for members
- To act in a transparent manner in relation to the public and media on all issues
Industry controls

- All rendering plants are subject to stringent health and environmental controls, most importantly the Animal By-Products Regulation (ABPR 2001/1774)
- All plants are regulated and licensed by the State Veterinary Service (SVS) of Defra
- Environmental performance is strictly controlled and monitored under Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) legislation
